About the Artist
The Love that Never Died
Born in Romania, Denisa Paul moved to the UK in her early teens. She adapted to British life but spent years torn between English and Romanian identities — a struggle that ultimately found expression through her creativity.
Denisa escaped into storybooks as a child and fell in love with both stories and art. Advised otherwise, she studied Creative Writing—earning a BA and MA, writing novels, poems and a long-running blog—but painting remained her quiet pull. Near thirty, frustrated by slow literary success, she found an old canvas and paints in the loft and painted.
It felt like coming home: liberating, nourishing, inevitable. She stopped promising a future return to art and made it her present. Now newly married, settling into a new home and studio, she’s exploring mixed media and expanding her technique. Her work continues to insist on hope, empowerment and revelation—bringing beauty into the darkest places.
She begins with inspiration — portraits, Hubble images and other visuals that resonate. When something speaks to her she sketches the idea and starts painting. Her first layer is loose and experimental, focusing on color and intention rather than detail. Moving from mixed media into oils she refines the work, letting the personality shine through the eyes and expression while hair and background merge into cosmic chaos. Painting the stars and sky—brushstrokes, splatters and texture—is her favorite part. Sometimes a piece is finished in one sitting; other times she revisits it with fresh eyes. Her goal is always to convey the emotion the night sky gives her—particularly the moments when splattered white becomes shooting stars and her heart lifts.
“My work is driven by purpose. I believe life is a gift to be lived intentionally — with faith, love, and truth shaping us to serve beyond ourselves. I paint to encourage: to turn pain into felt understanding, to brighten someone’s day, and to remind them that hope and light remain. Faces often look upward in my portraits as an invitation to open one’s eyes to the larger world and discover what we’ve been missing.”
